European Commission

The European Commission is organising a brokerage event for the call Virtual Worlds Test Beds. This funding initiative aims to contribute to the European digital sovereignty and open strategic autonomy in the domain of virtual worlds, supporting the development of innovative and interoperable virtual worlds solutions.

The Virtual Worlds Test Beds will support testing, experimentation, and integration of virtual worlds, immersive and extended reality technologies in specific sectors, targeting both industrial and societal applications. They will focus on validating mature technologies and solutions that have already been tested in laboratories, in order to confirm their performance in real-world environments. The initiative will also address interoperability and transferability between virtual worlds and explore regulatory sandboxes in the domain.

Two Virtual worlds Test Beds will be funded: one aiming to maximise the uptake of virtual worlds solutions in industry, by supporting industrial applications such as manufacturing, construction or industrial design, and the other to promote similar outcomes in societal applications, including education and training, cultural heritage and other cultural experiences, public administration or healthcare
