The session is scheduled for Wednesday 30 October, 14:00 – 15:30 CET. This timing is chosen to ensure that outermost regions have the opportunity to participate, as encouraged by the European Commission.
Following the recent announcement of CEF Digital - Call 4, this session will focus on the Backbone Connectivity for Digital Global Gateways call. The aim of this initiative is to support the deployment or upgrade of backbone networks as part of the Digital Global Gateway Strategy of the EU. This call will help strengthen the quality of connectivity both within the Union (including the Overseas Countries and Territories – OCTs) and between Member States and third countries.
The session will begin with an introduction by Eva Zandonella, Policy Analyst and Coordinator at DG REGIO, who will discuss the EU’s engagement with OCTs and highlight the importance of connectivity for these regions. Following this, Thomas Kuepper, Policy Officer at DG CNECT, will provide an in-depth look at the new call, including the specific solutions it targets and the studies it will support.
To conclude, Rory Ryan, Project Coordinator of the CEF-supported PISCES Cable System, will share valuable lessons learned from a previous CEF Digital application, offering insights from a real-world project experience.
