Data Spaces for Manufacturing - current state of play

This webinar aimed to discuss the current state of play in Data Spaces for Manufacturing. Experts, companies, and business associations were invited to join the discussion and give their views.

The increasing use of Artificial Intelligence and data-intensive applications in manufacturing and process industries requires the wide availability of data and tools, supported by the appropriate knowledge on how to make the best use of them in an industrial environment.

As part of the European Strategy for Data, the European Commission supports the creation of data spaces for the manufacturing sector to ensure enhanced access to privately held data, via industrial data platforms. These data spaces will offer a secure and trusted environment for companies to share their data based upon voluntary agreements. In such context, the manufacturing sector can benefit from shared infrastructures, systems and processes for the development and continuous improvement of data-intensive applications and artificial intelligence systems.

To reach this objective, EU Commission organised a number of workshops dedicated to discuss what can be done to implement data spaces. This webinar aimed to take stock and move forward the open debate on how to set up and grow data spaces for manufacturing in Europe. It built on the results of the workshop on 6 May 2020.

About the webinar

The webinar took place on 23 November 2020. Experts, companies, business associations and public authorities were invited to join this online workshop on the current state of play on data spaces for manufacturing. The speakers provided an overview of the new opportunities and potential synergies between the Digital Europe Programme and forthcoming programmes and funds such as the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). Some specific characteristics of the Digital Europe Programme were explained. The participants were invited to discuss how to identify embryonic data spaces and how to expand such ecosystems. And we discussed the next steps towards the first call for proposals.
