The Web Accessibility Directive, adopted in 2016, sets 23 September 2020 as the date by which all public sector websites across the EU will have to be accessible for persons with disabilities. The online event marks this important milestone for digital accessibility and participation in the EU.
Key stakeholders have highlighted achievements and remaining challenges in terms of practical implementation of web accessibility from different perspectives, including policy makers, Member States, activists, users, academia and accessibility professionals.

The Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology co-organised, with the European Disability Forum, an online discussion on the Web Accessibility Directive, on 23 September 2020. By that date, all public sector websites across Europe had to be accessible for persons with disabilities; mobile apps will follow by 23 June 2021.
