Convergent use of High Performance Computing, cloud, data and Artificial Intelligence resources for earth system modelling

On 27 November 2019, a workshop on convergent use of High Performance Computing (HPC), cloud, data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources took place in Brussels. The aim was to investigate what would be available and what would be needed in relation to building a future digital infrastructure related to advanced Earth system modelling for EU policy support.

During the event, the capabilities and initiatives of major stakeholders in this area have been presented together with the needs of European Commission Policy Directorates General. Discussions explored how they could come together with key European initiatives such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the Euro HPC Joint Undertaking, the European Connectivity Initiative GÉANT as well as Artificial Intelligence methodologies.
