EU-US Webinar on Cybersecurity for SMEs: Recording and Summary of the event

On 25 January 2022, TTC Working Group 9 organised a webinar on cybersecurity for SMEs, the first of a series of trainings/listening sessions on specific digital issues for SMEs, co-chaired by the chairs of the Working Group.

The first part of the meeting consisted of a training session led by Mr. J. L. Gonzalez Jimenez (SGS Brightsight CyberLab) and Mr. MJ Shoer (CompTIA), two specialised trainers in cybersecurity from the EU and the U.S. The training revolved around three main questions:

  1. What are the strategies of cybercriminals to attack companies?
  2. What can an SME do to protect itself from cyber risks?
  3. If an SME develops products and services, how can it make sure they are cyber-secure?

In the second part of the webinar, we heard from SMEs about their experience with cybersecurity and gathered their recommendations on what more should be done for SMEs in Europe and in the U.S. to become more cyber-resilient.

Based on the insights gained in the webinar, the Working Group affirmed its intention to produce concrete guidelines to improve the cyber-resilience of SMEs across the Atlantic.
