The purpose of the project is to roll out 5G technology in the Limoges metropolitan area.
To achieve this, the project will deploy a 5G private standalone (SA) network in Limoges, France.
What will it provide?
The project will allow improved quality of life through the implementation of a range of smart city, healthcare and security services in the city of Limoges.
How will it work?
The project’s 5G private SA network will enable the implementation of three use cases:
- Health sector - The network will enhance communication within the hospital, both among staff and with patients. By eliminating coverage ‘white zones’ and deploying secure communication systems, caregivers can operate more efficiently while improving patient safety.
- Regional security - The network will increase the responsiveness and effectiveness of police and public safety services in both urban and rural areas. Live monitoring of public highways and coordinated operations across services will ensure seamless safety management with complete coverage.
- Smart city - The network will support various parallel use cases, including mobility, heating networks, water management, automated lighting and traffic noise monitoring, to improve the quality of the road network. These solutions make the city more technologically advanced, environmentally friendly and sustainable, improving overall urban quality of life.
How will it be built?
To implement a 5G private SA network, the project will make use of existing public fibre infrastructure and sites for installing equipment, and five outdoor sites will be set up at ESTER Technopole and Limoges University Hospital. Edge cloud integration will enable applications to provide flexibility through virtualised functions and network slicing.
