On 21 February 2023, the Commission and the Key Digital Technologies JU Office organised a small workshop on competence centres in semiconductors.
The establishment of a European network of competence centres in semiconductors is a core element of the Chips for Europe Initiative, the first pillar of the European Chips Act.
The workshop aimed to facilitate discussions with the goal to reach consensus between representatives from the Member States as well as the European Commission, on the characteristics and the implementation process of the competence centres in semiconductors.
The workshop attracted around 80 participants, mostly from Member States, but also representatives from RTOs, academia, and industry associations.
The workshop included an introduction, four sessions on discussion topics, and conclusions and next steps.
