Workshop Summary and Report - Data-driven communities: fostering a local data ecosystem for sustainability

In order for EU smart cities and communities to benefit from, cross-domain, cross-city, easily portable data services and AI-powered simulation through digital twins, the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) will support the creation of a data space for climate-neutral and smart communities (as part of the common European Green Deal data space). The workshop, held on the 8th December 2020, enabled stakeholders to discuss strategic, technical and operational aspects of creating such a data space.

Towards a new policy framework to make cultural heritage institutions ready for the digital age

The Recommendation on the digitisation and online accessibility of cultural material and digital preservation has contributed to the increase in digitisation and online access to digital resources in the cultural heritage sector, across the EU during the past ten years. However, the Recommendation needs to be revised to better respond to the challenges and needs of the sector and to help it seize the opportunities created by digital transformation.

President von der Leyen at the ‘Masters of Digital 2021' event: ‘The 2020s can be Europe's Digital Decade'

The President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, delivered a speech yesterday at the ‘Masters of Digital 2021' event, where she said: “I believe the 2020s can be Europe's Digital Decade. A decade when Europe becomes a global leader in the digital world. New ideas are coming from the old continent. European industry as a whole is entering a new era. One fourth of industrial robots in the world are produced in Europe.”
