EU and Australia discuss shared priorities in third Digital Dialogue

The EU and Australia held their third Digital Economy and Technology Policy dialogue online to discuss continued cooperation in key areas of digital and tech.

The Digital Dialogue was hosted and co-chaired by Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology at the European Commission. Helen Wilson, Deputy Secretary of the Science and Technology Group at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, co-chaired the Dialogue on the Australian side.

The discussion included critical technologies, secure connectivity and infrastructure, cybersecurity, online safety and data policy. More specifically the EU and Australia discussed their respective strategic priorities and approaches to AI infrastructure, capability and safety. They exchanged on the importance of secure international connectivity and secure infrastructure. Further, the EU and Australia reviewed their collaboration and progress on online safety, with a specific focus on protection of minors. Finally they agreed to further discussions on the topics covered and to explore opportunities for collaboration, such as those resulting from association of Australia to the EU Horizon Europe program.
