Executive Vice-president Virkkunen visits Moldova to discuss cybersecurity and cooperation on digital policy

On Tuesday, 15 July, Executive Vice-President Virkkunen will be in Chisinau, Moldova, for a series of high-level meetings with Moldovan authorities.

The mission will focus on digital innovation and creativity, cybersecurity, and democratic governance. Following the Council's agreement to deepen the EU - Moldova cooperation on digital, the discussions will revolve around further efforts to strengthen cybersecurity, to fight disinformation, as well as the latest digital policy innovation.

During the visit, Executive Vice-President Virkkunen is scheduled to meet with Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Further meetings will include exchanges with Doina Nistor, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, and Mihai Lupascu, Director of the Agency for Cyber Security. The Executive Vice-President will also meet with Nicoleta Colomeet, Director of the Electronic Governance Agency.

In addition, the mission will involve a visit to Moldova State University and the latest facilities where digital innovation meets the media ecosystem. She will exchange with Liliana Vitu, Chair of the Moldovan Audiovisual Council, and Angelica Caraman, Head of the Election Commission. The EVP will meet Angelica Caraman, Head of the Election Commission, and Ana Revenco, Director of Centre for Strategic Communication and Combatting Disinformation.

These meetings will provide an opportunity to deepen EU-Moldova cooperation on resilience, cybersecurity, and media freedom, in the context of Moldova’s European path.
