European Broadband Awards 2017
Altogether 49 projects from 20 countries from all over Europe applied for the European Broadband Awards 2017. The jury composed of five European experts in broadband assessed the projects and selected 15 outstanding examples of broadband rollout in Europe.
Category 1: Innovative models of financing, business and investment

- Broadband Network Development in White Rural Areas, Greece
- SMART RURAL PROJECT - Promotion of ICT infrastructures in local administrations, Spain
- Glass-Fiber-City Lauchhammer/Brandenburg- Lauchhammer - the Road to the glass fiber city, Germany
Category 4: Socio-economic impact and affordability
- Next Generation Broadband Wales - publicly known as "Superfast Cymru", UK
- Coviolo Wireless, Italy
- 100 mb/s for schools on 100th independence anniversary, Poland
Category 5: Openness and competition
- enet’s Open Access Fibre To The Home Deployment in Rural North Kerry, Ireland
- Osuuskunta Helsingin Valokuidut (The Helsinki Optical Fibre Cooperative), Finland
- Superfast Internet Program (SIP), Hungary
The winners of the European Broadband Awards 2017 (one per category) will be announced and awarded at the Award Ceremony on 20 November, in the frame of the Broadband Days 2017. The European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel will host the ceremony. Commissioner Gabriel has also invited Commissioners Crețu (Regional Policy) and Hogan (Agriculture & Rural Development) to present the Awards in some of the categories.
