Since it was launched in 1991, the EU MEDIA programme has invested over €2.4 billion in European creativity and cultural diversity. It has supported the development of thousands of films in Europe and their international distribution.

Cannes Film Festival as well as its parallel events - Directors' Fortnight and Semaine de la Critique - will present 22 films supported by Creative Europe MEDIA, starting on Wednesday 11 until Sunday 22 May 2016. In the Official Competition, which includes 21 entries, 9 of the MEDIA films will be competing for the Palme d'Or. Overall, €2.1 million were invested in these European works

MEDIA has spent the last 25 years supporting European cinema and selecting the most promising works, with much success in international festivals such as Cannes Film Festival. 42 films supported by the MEDIA programme have been awarded top prizes since 1991 at the Cannes Film Festival.

On the occasion of 25 years of the MEDIA programme, 30 factsheets covering the EU countries as well as Norway and Iceland have been produced to give account of the diversity and the success of European filmmaking since 1991. They underline the key role played by the MEDIA programme in making successes happen.
