Projects from across Europe, each committed to delivering very high-capacity connectivity to citizens, applied for the European Digital Connectivity Awards. Following a thorough review process, the jury has selected nine outstanding initiatives that are making a real impact in bringing high-speed digital connectivity to Europe. The nominated projects will come together in Brussels on 7 October, where three winners will be announced and awarded by the European Commission.
The following nine projects were nominated by the jury for the finals in the three categories:
Category 1. Excellence and innovation in deployment of Gigabit-Ready Infrastructure
- Rijeka Gateway 5G Campus Network, Croatia
- Bibnetz - Sustainable technology in Berlin Public Libraries, Germany
- Hola 5G Oulu, Finland
Category 2. Champions in addressing digital divide in rural and remote areas
- ERMES - an Excellent Region in a Multimedia European Society, Italy
- Towards Universal Digital Inclusion: Nationwide Rollout of Very High-Capacity Networks in Rural Areas, Cyprus
- FTTH Gigabit Access Network deployment in ultra-rural areas in Castilla y Leon, Spain
Category 3. Cross-border and international connectivity
- GN4 Phase 3 Network Project - restructuring of the GÉANT backbone network, Netherlands
- ViaTunisia - Submarine cable between Marseille and Bizerte, France & Tunisia
- East West Gate, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland & Ukraine
