The Members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the invited countries discussed how to drive long-term recovery and economic growth by building a trusted, sustainable, and inclusive digital future, at the OECD Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting.

Roberto Viola, Director General of the Communications Networks, Content and Technology (Connect) at the European Commission, led the European Union delegation and participated in discussions on digital rights, artificial intelligence, online platforms, cybersecurity and government access to personal data presenting the latest developments in EU policies to partner countries.

The key outcome of the OECD Digital Economy Ministerial in 2022 is a Declaration on a “Trusted, Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Future”. This declaration sets out a vision for a human-centric and rights-oriented digital transformation and reflects the themes of the Declaration on European digital rights and principles, proposed by the European Commission and signed today by the European Parliament and the European Council.

The OECD Ministers also adopted a Declaration on “Government Access to Personal Data Held by Private Sector Entities” and presented four new recommendations on digital security.
