During these meetings, DG CONNECT and CSOs discuss the ways in which those organisations contribute to the scrutiny of content moderation practices in the framework of the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The first CSO roundtable took place on 07 February 2024.
During the meeting, DG CONNECT gave an update on the Commission’s DSA enforcement activities and the participants provided updates about the ongoing and planned activities of their respective organisations, in particular regarding content moderation. The roundtable covered a range of topics including the protection of minors, tackling online hate speech and disinformation, and crisis response mechanisms in the context of the DSA.
DG CONNECT also presented the proposed scope and approach of upcoming Commission Guidelines on Article 28 of the DSA on the protection of minors for providers of online platforms.
CSOs provided observations on transparency reports from providers of intermediary services under the DSA and gave feedback on the DSA transparency database that contains statements of reasons for restrictions to online content or accounts.
DG CONNECT expressed its interest in receiving well-founded complaints and concrete evidence concerning systemic non-compliance with the DSA.
DG CONNECT reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a regular dialogue with CSOs and will host regular online exchanges to discuss topics of relevance to the DSA implementation.
