Tenth Meeting of the European Board for Digital Services

On 12 December 2024, the European Board for Digital Services convened for its tenth meeting.

During this virtual meeting, the Digital Services Coordinators (DSCs) and observers informed about their ongoing activities and investigations.

After the roundtable, the Commission updated the Board on its recent enforcement activities and the latest developments on the work on the protection of minors online, and specifically on its work on an age verification application, as well as the Article 28(1) guidelines.

Moreover, the Commission provided an update on the risk assessment reports received from 19 very large online platforms (VLOPs), as part of the DSA’s goal to achieve more transparency, and related activities hereto such as the roundtable with civil society organisations of 10 December 2024.

In addition, the Commission presented the results of the public consultation on the draft delegated act and the feedback received from roundtables on the topic of data access for researchers. The Board also discussed the latest activities of the Working Groups.

Finally, the Board continued to discuss the role of platforms during elections, in particular in light of the recent elections in Romania and exchanged views on best practices.

The next Board meeting will take place online on 24 January 2025.

Background

The DSA fully entered into application as of 17 of February 2024, and now applies to all online intermediaries which offer services to recipients that have their place of establishment or are located in the EU. Member States had to appoint and empower, by that date, their Digital Services Coordinators, which are independent regulators that work with each other and the Commission to ensure the correct application of the DSA in their Member States.

The European Board for Digital Services is an independent advisory group that will ensure that the DSA is applied consistently across the EU and will be consulted on the enforcement of the DSA.
