The Advisory Forum is a general advisory body to the European Commission and the AI Board, supporting the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act.
The Advisory Forum has been established under the provisions of Article 67 of the AI Act. It complements the Scientific Panel of independent experts, which advises the Commission and, upon request, the national market surveillance authorities on General-Purpose AI (GPAI).
The 174 Advisory Forum members have been selected from more than 700 applications, across civil society, academia, and industry, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups. The members provide technical expertise and advice on a broad range of aspects of the AI Act, including on standardisation and implementation challenges.
The members serve two-year terms (renewable once) and are expected to actively engage in plenary meetings and thematic subgroups, and to provide opinions, recommendations and written contributions at the request of the AI Board or the Commission.
Co-chairs are elected by the members. The rules of procedure will be voted on and adopted by the members of the Advisory Forum.
The permanent members include representatives from the:
- Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA)
- EU cybersecurity agency ENISA
- European Committee for Standardisation (CEN)
- European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC)
- European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
The AI Office may invite relevant stakeholders to join as observers, in addition to the current observer.
