Apply for the European Broadband Awards 2021

Europes digital transformation by 2030 relies on providing citizens with access to a gigabit connectivity and 5G services. Europe digital decade begins with the relaunch of European Broadband Awards for 2021! All projects advanced in implementation, big or small, rural or urban, private or public, local, regional, national or cross-border, and covering all technologies are welcome to apply for the 2021 awards. The application deadline is the 17th of September 2021. The winners will receive an EU Broadband Award in the Autumn and will be showcased by the European Commission in the media, EU websites, newsletters and in the broadband good practices database.

Today the Commission receives industry technology roadmap on cloud and edge

27 CEOs of leading European companies submitted to the European Commission, a roadmap outlining technological priorities for investment needed to strengthen Europe's leadership in cloud and edge technologies. The companies agree to continue cooperating and further elaborating this strategic technology roadmap in the framework of the forthcoming Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud.

Guifi.net: Catalonian citizens’ broadband initiative reaches 100,000 rural inhabitants

As part of the Catalonian citizens initiative, Guifi.net, volunteers have helped install over 40,000 nodes, connecting 100,000 rural inhabitants. An inclusive dialogue with European citizens thanks to eTranslation

The platform supporting the Conference on the Future of Europe went live on 19 April 2021. It is an innovative space where citizens are able to discuss the future of Europe, share their ideas and submit proposals on topics that matter to them in any of the 24 official EU languages. This new interactive instrument and unique example of participatory democracy is powered by eTranslation, one of the AI based language tools developed by the European Commission.

Oscars 2021: Two EU-supported films won the famous awards

The winners of this year's edition of the Oscars were announced on 25 April during the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, with two films co-funded by the EU winning three awards. The Father' by Florian Zeller took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay by Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton, as well as Best Actor for Sir Anthony Hopkins' role. Furthermore, Druk - Another Round' by Thomas Vinterberg, which received EU support both for its development and distribution, won the award for Best International Feature Film.
