Today the European Union launched a call for proposals making €38.7 million of EU funding available under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) through grants to improve the interoperability and interconnectivity of the European digital service ecosystem. Interested applicants from all EU Member States plus Iceland and Norway may submit their proposals through the call open in the areas of eDelivery, eInvoicing, Public Open Data, Safer Internet for children and Europeana.

The Connecting Europe Facility will open up funding opportunities. On one hand, the Commission will procure the core platform of Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs). On the other hand, calls for proposals (grants) will be published to help linking the national infrastructure in the Member States to the core components.

The Toolbox aims to support, guide and encourage those who want to modernise public administrations in support of prosperous, fair and resilient societies. It is intended as a reference and resource by pointing readers to existing EU policies and international practices, illustrated by almost 170 inspirational case studies.

The European Commission has just published a study on the digital service infrastructures supported by the Connecting Europe Facility programme. The study gives an overview on the technical maturity of specific infrastructures to be deployed as of 2015.

The 2014 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Telecom Call for Proposals - Electronic Identification and Authentication (eID) makes €8.7 million available to finance projects of common interest in the telecommunications sector.

e-SENS and CEF Digital both aim at developing the European Digital Single Market and reaching economic growth by making available re-usable and interoperable solutions. Their goal is to facilitate the access for citizens and businesses to online services across borders. Working in close cooperation, e-SENS and CEF Digital have complementary roles in achieving this goal.

Five IT components for building e-government services involving ID, signatures, invoices, data exchange and machine translation are now available. The building blocks were developed and piloted by Member States in several large scale pilots.
