EU Electronic Communications Code: Commission calls on Member States to fully transpose new telecom rules into national law

The Commission has sent this week a reasoned opinion to Estonia, Spain, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Sweden for not having notified the Commission about the full transposition of the European Electronic Communications Code.

21 December marked the deadline for Member States to transpose the new EU telecom rules into national law. The European Electronic Communications Code, which entered into force in December 2018, modernises the European regulatory framework for electronic communications, to enhance consumer's choices and rights, ensure higher standards of communication services, as well as boost investment for more connectivity and more digital innovation.

Commission blocks Swedish regulation of fibre networks, requesting detailed analysis of geographic markets

Following a two-month in-depth investigation, the European Commission issued a veto decision today, blocking Swedish regulator, PTS, from adopting its market review decision. With this decision, the Commission objects to PTS’s finding of a national market for wholesale local access to fibre networks, concluded by PTS despite very significant variations in competitive conditions across Sweden.
