MolenGeek coding school goes European

MolenGeek coding school has presented the first project "The Padua Tech Station by MolenGeek" to scale up in Europe in the presence of Commission Vice-President Ansip and Belgium Deputy Prime Minister De Croo.

Commissioner Gabriel launches the first Digital Opportunity Traineeships and hands out the Digital Skills Awards 2017

At the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition conference, Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, unveiled the first Digital Opportunity traineeships available for students and announced the winners of the European Digital Skills Awards 2017. She also spoke about the achievements of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition in its first year: over 300 members with nearly 90 organisations taking concrete action by involving millions of Europeans.

20 outstanding projects reach the finals of the European Digital Skills Awards 2017

Twenty projects which encourage the development of digital skills in Europe have been selected as finalists for the European Digital Skills Award 2017. The best projects promoting excellence in Digital Skills will be awarded by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, at the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition conference in Brussels on 7th December. Winners and finalists will exhibit their projects at the conference.

Celebrate creating with code!

The fifth edition of EU Code Week will take place from 7 to 22 October 2017. Hundreds of thousands of people will be programming all over Europe. Schools, non-for profit organizations, businesses, libraries, code clubs are all busy organising coding events and showing people and peers how to bring ideas to life with code.

Launch of the European Digital Skills Awards 2017

Today, the European Commission is launching the second European Digital Skills Awards. Companies and other organisations are invited to submit projects they have implemented to improve digital skills in Europe for the awards. The best 4 projects designed at improving the digital skills of citizens, the labour force, ICT professional and in education will receive an award. A fifth award will go to the best project which also address the needs of women and girls. Extended deadline 5 November 2017.

Europe is skilling up in digital - the fifth edition of EU Code Week will take place 7-22 October 2017. Join the celebrations and learn how to express yourself with code. Create an app, a game, a website, make an interactive story or why not tinker with some hardware or make a robot move? Organise coding events for your parents, grandparents, friends or children and colleagues and help them understand and become active in our digital world.

Attitudes towards the impact of digitisation and automation on daily life

The European Commission has published a Eurobarometer survey presenting European citizens' opinions on the impact of digitisation and automation on daily life.
European citizens see digitisation and automation primarily as an opportunity but call for investment for better and faster internet services as well as effective public policy to accompany changes, in particular in areas such as employment, privacy and personal health. The results also show that the more people are informed or use technologies the more they are likely to have a positive opinion on them and to trust them.

New report shows digital skills are required in all types of jobs

The European Commission has just published the final report of the study "ICT for Work: Digital Skills in the Workplace" on the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the transformation of jobs and skills. The evidence shows that digital technologies are used in all types of jobs, also in economic sectors not traditionally related to digitisation e.g. farming, health care, vocational training and construction.

European Digital Progress Report: review of Member States' progress towards digital priorities

As a key part of the Digital Single Market strategy, the European Commission has published the annual Europe's Digital Progress Report (EDPR), which monitors progress in digital policies in the Member States. The report benchmarks developments in connectivity, digital skills, use of internet by citizens and by business, digital public services, and investment in research, development and innovation in ICT.
