Sommarju dwar l-iżvilupp tal-broadband f'Malta
Malta diġà laħqet l-ewwel għan tal-Aġenda Diġitali (DAE) dwar l-iżvilupp ta' broadband ta' 30 Mbps b'kopertura ta' 100 %. L-għan tad-DAE, li sal-2020 50 % tad-djar ikollhom abbonament għall-broadband b'rata ta' trasferiment ogħla minn 100 Mbps, se jiġi diskuss fl-i Strateġija għal Malta Diġitali 2014-2020.

Awtoritajiet responsabbli
- Il-qasam tal-iżvilupp tal-broadband jaqa 'taħt ir-responsabbiltà tal-Uffiċċju tal-Prim Ministru.
- L-Aġenzija tat-Teknoloġija tal-Informatika ta' Malta (MITA) tagħti l-impetu prinċipali għall-politika dwar it-tekonoloġiji tal-informazzjoni u tal-komunikazzjoni, programmi u inizjattivi fil-gvern.
- L-awtorità regolatorja nazzjonali għall-kommunikazzjonijiet elettroniċi u l-ġestjoni tal-ispektrum hija l-Awtorità ta' Malta dwar il-Komunikazzjoni (MCA). Permezz tal-fergħa tas-Soċjetà tal-Informazzjoni tagħha, l-MCA qed timplimenta għadd ta' miżuri li jistimulaw id-domanda, bl-għan li jiżdied l-użu tas-servizzi tal-broadband ultraveloċi. Dan jinkludi l-għoti tas-setgħa lin-nies sabiex jiksbu l-ħila u l-kuxjenza dwar il-possibiltajiet tal-internet (pereżempju għal kwalità ta' ħajja aħjar) permezz ta' informazzjoni personalizzata fuq portali tal-eGov, kummerċ elettroniku, servizzi bankarji onlajn u faċilitajiet għas-saħħa u l-kura soċjali. Barra minn hekk, l-MCA toffri għadd ta' inizjattivi b'enfażi partikolari fuq l-intrapriżi żgħar u ta' daqs medju (SMEs) biex tappoġġja t-tkabbir ekonomiku. Dan jinkludi l-promozzjoni tal-cloud computing bħala innovatur/faċilitatur tan-negozju, konsulenza, taħriġ u parir speċifiku immirati lejn l-użu tat-teknoloġiji diġitali u attivitajiet oħra iffokati biex jappoġġjaw it-tkabbir tan-negozju – speċjalment fost l-SMEs.
Miżuri ewlenin għall-iżvilupp tal-broadband
Malta ppubblikat l-i Strateġija għal Malta Diġitali 2014-2020. L-attivitajiet ta' prijorità għal Malta huma l-mobilitazzjoni ulterjuri tal-infrastruttura tal-broadband. L-għan tal-istrateġija huwa li sas-sena 2020 tiġi żgurata konnessjoni ta' 30 Mbps b' kopertura ta' 100 % u rata ta' abbonament ta' 50 % għall-konnessjoni ta' 100 Mbps. L-implimentazzjoni ta' din il-politika nazzjonali tinkludi newtralità fit-teknoloġija u ambjent kompetittiv. L-Strateġija Diġitali ta' Malta tenfasizza kemm l-aspetti relatati mal-provvista kif ukoll dawk tad-domanda fil-firxa tan-netwerk, il-qsim tal-infrastruttura eżistenti kif ukoll il-promozzjoni tal-IPv6 biex tħejji t-triq għall-Internet tal-Oġġetti (IoT).

This one-hour online workshop is dedicated to WiFi Installation Companies involved in the WiFi4EU initiative. This workshop is an important opportunity in view of the approaching deadline, which risks the loss of municipalities’ € 15,000 WiFi4EU vouchers.
Mountain regions have much to gain from digitalisation and broadband connectivity. There is great potential for Smart Villages, SMEs, and access to online services in healthcare, education and much more. Mountain communities, however, face greater obstacles than most in becoming full participants in the European Union’s Digital Decade. Their remoteness, in terms of distance and topography, combined with smaller populations, make them technically and financially challenging to reach with broadband infrastructure.
“Spain is the first European country to develop a broadband scheme for grey areas with a geographical scope covering all the nation” states Elena Galindo from Spain’s Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, in this video. Ms Galindo, representing Spain’s national Broadband Competence Office, explains that the scheme is needed as approximately “8-10% of the population living in isolated rural and remote areas could not be covered with fast broadband”. It aims to cover 3.5 million people, of which 430,000 in grey areas, with minimum speeds of 300 Mbps symmetrical, upgradeable to 1 Gbps.
