SocialTruth is an Horizon 2020 funded project aiming at inserting veridicity into digital media verification

The Coronavirus pandemic is not only putting a great strain onto our health system, but it is also testing our ability to distinguish important news from false and misinformation.

The situation pushed SocialTruth to speed up its efforts to tackle disinformation related to the pandemic. Among several activities dedicated to fight the dissemination of fakes related to the spread of the virus, the project  focuses on aggregating large volumes of datasets enriched with metadata that will be useful to assess credibility levels. The plan is, first, to make available Coronavirus-related Tweets and News Feeds to be used by SocialTruth partners for misinformation analysis and for preparing and validating computer algorithms for identifying fake news. Furthermore, these training and validation datasets will be made available to EU research community. Moreover, SocialTruth wants to advance also the development of a  Digital Companion that allows users to check the reliability of social media content and to identify reused content online.

SocialTruth is a Horizon 2020 project that puts together search engines, media groups, research institutes and consumers associations.  The aim of the project has been to create an open, democratic, pluralistic and distributed ecosystem that enables easy access to various verification services, ensuring scalability and establishing trust.
