iStoppFalls is a three steps program: measure how likely older people are to fall, provide tools and training programs to prevent falling, and help them measure their progress and self-control their achievements.
Microsoft Kinect technology was used, for the measurement and monitoring, which allows for controller-free full-body motion detection. During the day participants wore a Senior Mobility Monitor (SMM) around the neck, to record their daily living activity and engage them in exercise. Playful 'exergames' provide playful fall preventive strength exercises and balance games they can perform in their own living room.
A 'living lab' study showed that the system can easily be integrated into daily activities, thanks to unobtrusive sensing technologies, advanced human computer interaction the and automated collection of physiological data.
The exhibit at the Summit will present a life demo of the fall prevention exergame and engage participants to measure their fall risk and perform the training/games themselves.
