Spain, 19 December 2025 – Telefónica has completed the nationwide deployment of VoNR in Spain, becoming the first and only operator to offer voice calls entirely over a 5G standalone network. Available to Movistar customers with compatible devices, the service now covers more than 5,700 municipalities, reaching around 94% of the population, with no requirement for new tariffs or number changes.
VoNR enables faster call set-up, improved voice quality and greater stability, while allowing users to maintain high-speed 5G data sessions during calls. The launch builds on Telefónica’s 5G standalone rollout and supports advanced capabilities such as network slicing and edge computing, reinforcing the operator’s position within Spain’s 5G ecosystem.
