The present working paper summarizes selected findings of the macro-economic simulations conducted as part of the study "Shaping the digital transformation in Europe", which assess the potential impact of disruptive digital technologies on the economy and society in the EU and its member states. The study is carried out by McKinsey & Company on behalf of the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect).

It is the second deliverable of the AI HLEG and follows the publication of the group's first deliverable, Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, published on 8 April 2019. This document expands the definition of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as defined in the Commission Communication on AI. It clarifies certain aspects of AI as a scientific discipline and as a technology, with the aim to avoid misunderstanding, to achieve a shared common knowledge of AI that can be fruitfully used also by non - AI experts, and to provide useful details that can be used in the discussion on both the AI ethics guidelines and the AI policies recommendations.
