The Web Summit brings together the tech industry to explore upcoming opportunities and create avenues for new ones. The European Commission joins the event to talk to startups and small businesses about their rights under the EU rules that are shaping a transparent and fair online business landscape. In addition, they will have a chance to hear about upcoming funding opportunities and, throughout the duration of the event, visit the information desk managed by the Commission's Health and Digital Executive Agency, Hadea. 14 November, 16-16.45h: Digital Markets Act: protecting businesses and startups on online markets
Online marketplaces, app stores and platforms can be a significant gateway for startups and small businesses to reach consumers. When these online intermediary services also market their own products and services, they can have unfair advantages over smaller businesses who use their platforms. The Digital Markets Act is tackling these unfair practices and changing the online environment to make it a fairer playing field.
The new rules are coming into play from March 2024 and the Web Summit Masterclass on the Digital Markets Act is a good opportunity to gain a clear understanding of the rules ahead of time. Business users can learn about the new rights on interoperability, how they can use and access data and how their products are ranked, among others.
