Commons-IP is a versatile tool to facilitate the validation and creation of E-ARK Information Packages, that has been improved to ensure effortless conformance with E-ARK specifications version 2.1.0. It can be used as a command-line tool or a Java library integrated in your technological infrastructure for electronic archiving and digital preservation.
For validation purposes, Commons-IP allows users to check the integrity of existing Submission Information Packages (SIPs) against specified E-ARK Common Specification for Information Package (CSIP) versions. It generates detailed reports and offers options for customising the validation process.
In terms of creation, Commons-IP simplifies the process of generating E-ARK Information Packages according to the latest version of E-ARK SIP specification. Users can include documentation, specify paths for saving the SIPs, and easily define metadata parameters. When dealing with descriptive metadata, Commons-IP provides a seamless experience. Users can specify the type and version of metadata, along with relevant schema files if needed.
For managing representations within SIPs, Commons-IP offers options to specify representation data, IDs, and types, ensuring comprehensive package management. Commons-IP empowers users to efficiently handle E-ARK Information Packages (IPs), facilitating smooth digital preservation workflows.
This achievement is a testament to collaborative efforts led by the E-ARK Consortium member, KEEP SOLUTIONS, supported by contributions from Thomas Edvardsen of the National Library of Norway's Digital Preservation Team.
