The purpose of the project is to transform healthcare processes by increasing efficiency, therapeutic success, and patient-centric care, while reducing costs.
To achieve this, the project will deploy a private 5G standalone network in Oulu University Hospital, Finland.
What will it provide?
The project will enable the research and development of advanced information sharing and visualisation technologies for use in operating rooms and patient wards, based on augmented and virtual reality wearable technologies and visualisation applications.
How will it work?
The project’s private 5G standalone network will enable the implementation of a use case for the transmission and visualisation of patient information, using augmented and virtual reality, for medical staff, including surgeons, nurses and anaesthesiology experts, to access in operating rooms and patient wards. This will allow optimised use of operating rooms, as well as saving up to 50% of medical staff’s time per patient while improving the quality of the time spent with patients.
How will it be built?
The project will implement a private 5G standalone network using n77 spectrum, 4000-4100 MHz, and comprising 22 Pico radios, a Geo-redundant High Availability Core and cloud resources.
How is it financed?
The project has a total budget of €2.07 million, of which €1.55 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital programme.
Who is involved?
The project is lead by Boldyn Networks Oy (Edzcom Oy), as project coordinator, with the University of Oulu, Oulu University Hospital, and WICOAR Technologies Oy as beneficiaries.
