The Signatory Taskforce fosters exchanges and compliance, helping signatories implement EU rules for general-purpose AI models via the Code of Practice.
Signatories of the General-Purpose AI Code of Practice, a voluntary tool that helps industry comply with the EU rules for general-purpose AI (GPAI) models, have established a Signatory Taskforce to facilitate coherent application of the Code. The Taskforce is chaired by the AI Office.
Objectives of the Taskforce
The AI Act's rules for providers of GPAI models apply since 2 August 2025, bringing more transparency, safety, and accountability. Providers can demonstrate compliance by relying on the Code of Practice, which was prepared by independent experts in a multi-stakeholder process and endorsed by the Commission and the AI Board consisting of Member States. Ahead of the entry into application in August 2026 of the enforcement of the AI Act's rules, the AI Office is preparing its compliance assessments and actively engages with AI providers to ensure adherence to the rules.
To facilitate a coherent application of the Code, the Signatory Taskforce provides those Signatories that choose to become Members of the Taskforce the opportunity to exchange views. So far, most of the Signatories of the Code have become Taskforce Members (list on the last page).
The Taskforce aims to facilitate exchanges between Signatories, where relevant to implement the Code. The Taskforce can provide input on guidance documents without prejudice to the AI Office’s required public consultations. It may facilitate the exchange of views on technological developments and gather insights from and provide updates to relevant third-party stakeholders. It may be a forum to seek and discuss research, independent expert input, and up-to-date evidence relevant to the Code’s commitments or measures.
The Taskforce will meet at the frequency required to carry out its objectives - at least yearly. Meetings of the Taskforce will be convened by the AI Office, either on its own initiative or at the request of Members. The AI Office, as chair, will facilitate the discussions.
Transparency
The AI Office is committed to maintaining transparency towards the public. In doing so, the AI Office published the Taskforce Vademecum (including a list of participants). The AI Office will register any meetings held under the Taskforce and a high-level summary, acknowledging that some information may be commercially confidential.
The Signatory Taskforce has a precedent in the successful Permanent Taskforce under the Code of Conduct on Disinformation (Transparency Centre), tied to the Digital Services Act.
