The Spanish SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) COMPASSIS has received the I4MS Disruptors Award at the European Digital Innovation Hubs Annual Event in Warsaw, where stakeholders from all across Europe are discussing how to reinforce the capacity of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) to support European companies in their digital transformation.
The prize, handed by Commissioner Gabriel and Polish Minister Emilewicz, recognises COMPASSIS’ outstanding innovation in the field of simulation software for ships design. Using cloud-based simulations run in High Performance Computers (HPC), the SME improved the design of vessels’ ability to withstand rough conditions at sea.
This solution was developed in collaboration with the Spanish Digital Innovation Hub CESGA and other partners within the EU-funded project Fortissimo, part of the European initiative ICT Innovation for Manufacturing SMEs (I4MS).
Thanks to this innovative software solution, COMPASSIS has allowed to reduce by a factor 45 the computational time needed for assessing seakeeping of vessels, making HPC solutions more affordable and accessible to other companies.
The awarded experiment is a good example of how Digital Innovation Hubs and European initiatives are helping SMEs to take advantage of digital technologies to improve their business, bring radical innovation to their sector and reach new markets.
