Digitising European Industry- Roundtable with Commissioner Oettinger and key leaders of national initiatives- 30 June 2015

Following the announcement of Commissioner Oettinger in the Competitiveness Council on May 28, the roundtable of leaders of national initiatives on "digitising European industry" took place on June 30 with the presence of high-level representatives of Ministries, platforms, industry associations and trade union association.

The roundtable stakeholders had been asked to express their views on the following questions:

  • Which initiatives to foster the digital transformation of industry did you launch? How did you target industry, and with which means? Which results have you achieved so far?
  • Which needs do you see for European initiatives to complement and/or extend your national strategies? Which role should the EU institutions play?
  • Which concrete steps do you see to significantly increase national and EU efforts and join forces to create critical mass and attract further private investment?

Member States having a national initiative or a platform were UK's High Value Manufacturing initiative, France's Industrie du Futur, Germany's Industrie 4.0 programme and platform, Netherlands' smart industry, Austria, Portugal, Finland (such as FIMECC, Industrial Internet) and of the Fabbrica Intelligente technology cluster in Italy, as well as the outline of the Spanish initiative.
