This year’s overarching theme is “Internet for human resilience and solidarity”, in tune with the current COVID-19 developments. The four main topics that will shape the debate are data, trust, inclusion and environment.
The European Commission is a strong supporter of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and is organising several initiatives during the event:
- An interactive Open Forum on “Trustworthy internet technologies against COVID-19” featured as one of the pre-events, organised last Friday 6 November.
- A virtual booth with the latest information on the Next-Generation Internet initiative.
The IGF brings together all the global actors of the internet governance debate: from civil society to governments, to industry representatives and the technical community.
The event will feature an intervention by the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, who will deliver a keynote speech this Monday 9 November during the opening ceremony, while Commissioner Breton will intervene during the high-level closing session on Tuesday 17 November.
Registration to participate live in the event is still open.
