The ePolicy interface will support policy makers in their decision process across a multi-disciplinary effort aimed at engineering the policy making life-cycle. For the first time, global and individual perspectives on the decision process are merged and integrated. The project focuses on regional planning and promotes the assessment of economic, social and environmental impacts during the policy making process (at both the global and individual levels).

Several modules have been produced using optimisation techniques, agent based modelling and game theory, aimed at providing tools that can be helpful to decision makers.  In addition, several techniques have been used to identify and understand the views of citizens in general.  These have included involving them in traditional eParticipation tools, as well as using more novel opinion mining techniques which can be utilised to automatically extract opinions and sentiments from internet blogs and social media.

ePolicy has developed modules which are  tailored to elements of regional sustainable energy policies – particularly incentive regimes to encourage the use of photo-voltaic units to generate electricity – but a methodology for extending them to other policy domains has also been defined.

Manual providing guidance on using the platform

ePolicy has produced two videos that can be accessed from the ePolicy home page, and an ePolicy story-board, which describes one possible way that policy makers could develop policies supported by ePolicy tools.
