ALFRED, which will be exhibited at ICT2015, is envisioned as the first eco-system of wellness and health apps tailored for the specific needs of older people. Incentives to being active are provided by gamification. These incentives foster physical and cognitive health as well as socialisation.
ALFRED tracks the user's vital signals and monitors their execution of exercises. The signals are visualized in real time on a mobile or desktop application, which can be personalized to allow access to certain data by other users such as relatives or carers. Users can control the ALFRED system by voice.
The ALFRED prototype that will be showcased will allow hands-on interaction. In particular, visitors will be able to:
- Get general exhibition information and directions via the voice-controlled user interface of the ALFRED Assistant.
- Socialize with the serious game, by ‘Dancing with ALFRED’ in perfect harmony with up to three other visitors
- Check vital signs with the ALFRED sensor T-Shirt while doing an exercise that helps prevent back pain, guided by the ALFRED Assistant
ALFRED offers a unique integration of disciplines: wearables, big data, social networking, serious games and human-computer interaction, to achieve real impact. Gamification makes ALFRED fun and keeps users motivated, while the feedback on vital signs raises their health self-awareness and increases their confidence.
Michael Krummen, one of coordinators of the project says, "In two testing rounds with real users we didn't work only on functionalities like the speech interaction and the data-transmission by the sensor T-shirt, but also on the fun-factor. While we find Alfred's functionalities work correctly, the users love the gaming aspect – the way Alfred challenges them - as well as the social dancing-with-Alfred-part."
At ICT 2015 from 20-22 October in Lisbon ALFRED can be found off-site, at Praça do Comércio in Lisbon.
