Digital Champions met for the fifth time on 25-26 November in Brussels. One of the objectives of the meeting was to hear the Champions' priorities for 2014 and to find synergies with those of Vice-President Kroes and DG CONNECT. Another aim was to inform the DCs about available funding, such as the Structural Funds and to ensure that they were up-to-date with the latest policy developments.</p>

Lars Frelle-Petersen, Head of the <a href="http://www.digst.dk/">Danish Agency for Digitisation </a>and the Digital Champion of Denmark, is enthusiastically pursuing the development of a digitalized postal system both for public institutions and private companies.</p>

Since July 2013 Francesco Caio has been the Digital Champion of Italy and, at the same time, the Italian Government Commissioner for the implementation of the Italian Digital Agenda. Nicknamed "Mr Digital Agenda" in his country, Francesco Caio believes that investment in broadband technology is essential to achieve the objectives of the Digital Agenda</p>

There are many creative ways of making the point about the role digital networks play in today's economy. For David Puttnam, film-maker and also Ireland's Digital Champion, the situation today reminded him of a different, related topic people were discussing around 60 years ago.
The aim is to outline the long-term vision for a modern and open public sector and the way public services may be delivered in an open government setting.<br />

On 1st October, <a href="http://www.paneuropa.bg/en/" target="_blank">PanEuropa Bulgaria </a>organized a conference on the topic of "Freedom and Diversity of Media. Where Does Bulgaria Stand?”. The conference was open by <a href="http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/bulgaria-0">Gergana Passy, Digital Champion in Bulgaria </a>and by Dr. Marko Arndt, Head of "Konrad Adenauer Foundation”, Bulgaria.
<p>A study carried out by the European Commission has shown that bringing more women into digital jobs could create a €9 billion annual GDP boost in the EU. Policy change is especially needed because of an alarming drop in ICT female graduates (today only 29 out of every 1000 female graduate has a computing or related degree, and only 4 go on to work in ICT directly)</p>
