Representatives from governments, civil society, and private entities will share their insights on the Declaration for the Future of the Internet in a workshop at the Internet Governance Forum. The workshop will be held on 30 November 2022, and is organised within the context of the Internet Governance Forum in Ethiopia.

The dialogue will focus on the role of the multistakeholder community in promoting the Declaration for the Future of the Internet (DFI).

Launched on April 28 2022, the DFI is an international commitment endorsed by more than 60 countries in support of an open, free, global, interoperable, reliable and secure internet. It defines universally shared principles that re-emphasise the potential of the open Internet to reinforce democracy, social cohesion, human rights, and economic growth and development.

The workshop will serve as a platform for stakeholders to explore ways to translate the principles of the DFI into concrete policies and actions. Participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on Internet governance and other key issues.

The workshop is one of the activities under the “Promotion and development of the Open Internet in Africa”, a project funded by the European Union. This project recently published report “The Open Internet as cornerstone of digitalisation”, which presents fresh data on the global advantages of internet openness and identifies concrete opportunities for digital partnerships between Africa and the EU.

The DFI workshop will be held in the frame of the IGF 2022, from 13:50 to 15:20 UTC on November 30. Participants can also follow the event online.
