Werner Coomans is a Technology Advisor at Nokia, advising senior corporate management on technology topics related to network infrastructure such as, e.g., low-latency networking, quantum security, and satellite networks. Before that, he was the department head of Fixed Networks research at Nokia Bell Labs, which he joined as a researcher in 2013 after obtaining a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering/photonics. His research in Bell Labs focused on next-generation copper-based and optical fixed network technologies. He was the recipient of the 2019 Edison Patent Award and is a Bell Labs Distinguished Member of Technical Staff.
