On the occasion of the sixth Ministerial Meeting of the EU-U.S. Trade and Technology Council (TTC), the Commission and the U.S. government convened a set of workshops with EU and U.S. experts on data access for researchers and technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) in Leuven, Belgium, on 4 April.
The Commission and the White House published the summary report of the workshops where expert participants raised key goals and discussed emerging barriers and possible actions to expand access to public online platform data, and how to use this data to better understand TFGBV.
The workshop report adds to the status report on mechanisms for researcher access to online platform data and joint principles on combating gender-based violence in the digital environment, that the EU and the U.S. published at the occasion of the Ministerial Meeting.
The EU and the U.S. continue to encourage the research community to analyse data access mechanisms, and to explore how they can contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of – and the potential risks emanating from online platforms with regard to areas such as the mental health and development of children and youth, and technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
