The Global Gateway is the new European strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors and to strengthen health, education and research systems across the world. Between 2021 and 2027, Team Europe, meaning the EU institutions and EU Member States jointly, will mobilise up to EUR 150 billion of investments in Africa.

The new Global Gateway African investment package unveiled on the occasion of the sixth EU-AU Summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 February 2022 presents concrete Team Europe Initiatives that will support EU-AU common ambitions for 2030.

In the field of digital, the package will improve connectivity with a set of Team Europe Initiatives focused on connecting Europe and Africa via submarine cables, Africa's regions via fibre optic backbones and unserved regions via satellite communication. It will support digital innovation ecosystems in African countries and link them to European digital innovation ecosystems.
