Four EU-supported films amongst the winners of the 74th Berlin Film Festival

Last Saturday 24th February, the Berlinale Award Ceremony honoured the best films among the titles shortlisted for awards.

Four films supported by the EU’s Creative Europe MEDIA programme are amongst the winners of the 2024 edition of the Berlinale, receiving a total of five awards.

  • No Other Land by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor took home the Berlinale Documentary Award and the Panorama Audience Award (Documentary Film). This film was supported by MEDIA for its co-production between Norway and Palestine.
  • The GWFF Best First Feature Award goes to Cu Li Never Cries (Cu Li Không Bao Giờ Khóc) by Lân Phạm Ngọc. This co-production between France, Norway, Vietnam, Philippines and Singapore was also supported in its co-production.
  • Maria's Silence (Marijas klusums) by Dāvis Sīmanis was awarded the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury (forum). Co-produced in Latvia and Lithuania, the film was supported by MEDIA for its development.
  • Some Rain Must Fall (Kong fang jian li de nv ren) by Qiu Yang has been awarded with the Encounters Special Jury Award (ex aequo). This film was supported by MEDIA for its co-production between France, China, USA, and Singapore.

In total 15 films screened at Berlinale had been granted almost €700.000 altogether by  Creative Europe MEDIA programme.
