The revision of the Code of Practice on Disinformation is ongoing, and the Commission is pleased to see that 26 new prospective signatories joined the drafting process, broadening the participation in the strengthened Code. Prospective signatories include online platforms, players from the advertising industry, providers of tools to fight disinformation, research and fact-checking organisations.
The revision of the Code is based on the Commission's Guidance issued in May, which sets out how the current Code should be strengthened to provide a firm response to disinformation. The Commission urges signatories to carry out the revision process swiftly and in full respect of its Guidance.
The current and prospective signatories are now expected to deliver the strengthened Code of Practice by the end of March 2022. The extended timeframe shall allow signatories to draft a strong instrument with granular commitments adapted also to the diverse services represented by the broader range of prospective signatories.
