What will it provide?
This project will study the candidate locations for the cable landing points, execute a preliminary environmental impact analysis and identify additional studies and works that may be required to initiate the permitting procedure. Additionally, the study will provide the preliminary submarine route proposal for the deployment of new submarine cables.
Canary Subcab will prepare for the implementation of the Call 1 project GC-LZ-FU Ring.
How will it work?
The study will include:
A pre-feasibility study: a preliminary study will be carried out on the different landing areas proposed by CanaLink, to assess their suitability and identity what additional works may be required. Based on previously carried out analyses, these areas were identified according to their proximity to existing networks, population centres or the needs of the different operators interested in supporting this initiative.
Shore End candidate points analysis: once the preliminary study has been carried out and the preferential landing areas have been located, an exhaustive study will be carried out on the different geographic candidate landing points for the new submarine cables, resulting in an evaluation report for each landing point. This will include a preliminary environmental impact study in order to detect if additional studies are needed for obtaining the necessary permits and concessions. It will also include a specific risk assessment study based on the history of incidents in the area.
A preliminary route study: after analysing the planned documentation, a report will be prepared with a preliminary route proposal drawn up from bibliographic information, visits to the landing area and terrestrial route, studying all the elements that could condition the system.
How is it financed?
The study to deploy new submarine cables in the Canary Islands has a total budget of €826.9 thousand, of which €413.4 thousand funded under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital programme.
