During the event, Miguel Gonzalez-Sancho, Head of Unit for "Cybersecurity Technology and Capacity Building" at the European Commission and interim Executive Director of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre, recapped on the goals of the Cyber Skills Academy and progress to date on the Academy's four pillars: "Knowledge Generation & Trainings," "Funding & Projects," "Stakeholder Involvement," and "Measuring Progress."

Amongst other, participants discussed about the status of the pledges, coordinated communication and measurement indicators on cyber skills in the framework of the Academy.

Two of the pledgers presented relevant work: initial results of Cisco’s “Networking Academy” and ISC2's "2023 Cybersecurity Workforce Study" with a focus on the European Union. ENISA presented its work on cyber skills indicators.

Participants agreed to continue closely collaborating to contribute to the goals of the Cybersecurity Skills Academy.

Background

The EU Cybersecurity Skills Academy is a coordinated approach to boost the EU cyber workforce, responding to the urgent need for more professionals to prevent, detect, deter, and defend the EU against cyberattack. Under the umbrella of the 2023 European Year of Skills, the Commission adopted a Communication on a Cybersecurity Skills Academy on 18 April 2023. The Academy is hosted on the Digital Skills & Jobs Platform, a website providing open access to a wide variety of high-quality information and resources for everyone interested in the broad topic of digital skills and jobs.
