Spring 2018 came with big news in Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC): the first module of the JUWELS supercomputer has been installed.

JUWELS stands for "Jülich Wizzard for European Leadership Science" and it has been built in a joint development project between Atos and ParTec.

It is the first element of an innovative supercomputer architecture called "Modular Supercomputing". A highly scalable module with significantly higher performance will follow in 2019.

The prototype for this  smart exascale architecture was developed in the three EU-funded projects DEEPDEEP-ER and DEEP-EST.

JUWELS is built on the basis of European IP and technology. It can be seen as the first proof of concept to demonstrate European performance on the way to exascale supercomputers.
