The European Film Forum travels this month to San Sebastian

This year, the European Film Forum at the San Sebastian Film Festival will take place on 23 September, from 17.00 to 19.15. Under the title 'New financing and collaboration models promoting European works', the aim of the discussion will be to highlight the increasing importance of cooperation along the value chain in the European audiovisual industry at all levels, from financing the creative process to its distribution and promotion.

The first panel, entitled 'Co-financing formulas for a better exploitation of rights', will explore new financing and collaboration
models and will feature the case study of O que arde (Fire will come) by Oliver Laxe to illustrate the possibilities for combining different sources of public and private financing and how a European instrument like the Creative Europe Guarantee Facility and, in the future, InvestEU, can help the European audiovisual industry finance its activities. The use of new technologies, such as blockchain, strongly incentivised by Zinemaldia & Technology*, can add value in this respect.

The second panel, focused on co-distribution and co-production, will more specifically shed light on how an increasingly competitive collaboration environment may notably help European works to increase their audiences across the world, through the support of co-production funds. The film Grace à Dieu (By the grace of God) by François Ozon will be explained as an example.

Also under the context of the European Film Forum, Creative Europe MEDIA is supporting the the second edition of Zinemaldia & Technology and the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, organised by the San Sebastian Film Festival and aiming to reward new business projects addressing innovative solutions for the audiovisual world based on the application of new technologies.

On Sunday 22 September, from 10.00 to 14.00, the five finalist projects of the Zinemaldia StartUp Challenge will be pitched, and following a presentation and a masterclass, the award will be announced.
