A number of topics will be covered next year, including some that have never been called for before in the Horizon 2020 programme, like holographic displays, energy harvesting and research tools in Biophotonics. Opportunities are still availble also for the "classic" topics, like sensing devices and Photonics Integrated Circuits.  This year a call for a specific Photonics Innovation Hub has also been launched.

Standards are crucial. Often considered a side and boring activity by scientists, the can make the difference. To this aim, a workshop was organized by the European Commission to gather the various actors (researchers, clinicians/end users, companies, associations, standardization bodies, EC) and discuss the experience achieved and methodologies pursued.

The Infoday on Photonics calls 2019 was a major success, with over 80 participants in the room and several connecting from home via webstreaming. Commission officials presented the various call topics, together with the evaluation process and “lessons learnt”.
