The European Commission endorsed the Croatian EUR 101.4 million Broadband funding scheme. The Next Generation Network (NGN) Broadband Plan is in line with EU State Aid rules. The scheme aims to provide fast internet access where it is currently not available, in particular in rural areas.

nöGIG is one of the five winners of the European Broadband Awards 2016 competition. The project implements a three-layer open access model with point to point FTTH networks in underserved rural areas, combining attractive prices for private and business end users with large choice of service providers. This is an excellent example of striving for openness and competition in broadband.

We are living through challenging times when the mission of the European project needs to be reinvented. If we want a prosperous digital Europe, we cannot wait with ambitious actions. The Digital Single Market is definitely one of the key European policy initiatives and can become an engine for prosperity. However, to achieve an ultimate vision of the interconnected and innovative Europe, we need to put a lot of effort into the digital transformation of our continent.
