Organised by the European Film Academy, chaired by film director Wim Wenders, the European Film Awards have become over the years an important platform for the circulation of films and audience development. 3000 cinema professionals from 17 fields and 47 countries annually cast their votes, alongside the People’s Choice Award.

EU-supported productions The Lobster and Youth have garnered 5 nominations and will compete for the most prestigious awards. Overall, no less than 16 films with EU financial backing have been shortlisted, including for the comedies and documentaries categories.
